Tomorrowland ThailandTomorrowland Thailand: Pattaya, 11 to 13 December
New Year in Thailand: Countdowns and FireworksNew Year countdown: 31 December in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket
Songkran 2027Songkran: the water festival, 13 to 15 April 2027What are the biggest festivals in Thailand?
The biggest Thailand festivals are Songkran in April and Loy Krathong in November. Songkran is the Thai New Year, when the whole country turns into one huge water fight. In 2027, 13 to 15 April are public holidays. Loy Krathong is the festival of lights. People float small krathong boats on rivers and lakes under the full moon, and Chiang Mai fills the sky with lanterns for Yi Peng.
Two more seasons pull big crowds. December is music month: Wonderfruit runs 3 to 7 December 2026, Tomorrowland Thailand 11 to 13 December, Big Mountain 12 to 13 December and EDC Thailand 18 to 20 December. Then New Year's Eve brings countdown parties in the big cities and on Haad Rin beach.
Pick the festival first, then build the trip around it. Plan it with Tanner.
Why is Thailand's festival calendar so full?
Thailand's year runs on the moon. The Buddhist holy days fall on full moons, so Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha and Asalha Bucha move every year. In 2027 Makha Bucha falls on Sunday 21 February, with Monday 22 February off, and Visakha Bucha on Thursday 20 May.
Every town keeps its own date too. Isan has the rocket festivals, Dan Sai in Loei has the masked ghosts of Phi Ta Khon, and Sakon Nakhon parades its wax castles at the end of Buddhist Lent.
The North lights up the sky with the Yi Peng lanterns in Chiang Mai, on 23 to 25 November 2026. Chinese families brought their own festivals too: the Phuket Vegetarian Festival is set for 30 September to 8 October 2027.
Then come the new ones: the big music festivals that fill December. Read why Thailand has so many festivals and cultural festivals in Thailand, or Ask Tanner which festival fits your dates.

When's the best time to go?
November to April is the sweet spot. The cool season runs from mid-October to mid-February, and almost every big date lands in these six months. November has Loy Krathong, on Tuesday 24 November 2026 and expected on Saturday 13 November 2027, and the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival on 27 and 28 November 2026. December has the music festivals and the countdown. April has Songkran.
The islands work to their own weather. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are driest February to April, which suits the Full Moon Party on Wednesday 21 April 2027, a week after Songkran.
A regular's trick: Loy Krathong and Yi Peng land in the same week, so one Chiang Mai trip catches both. Ask Tanner which month suits your crew.
What's on, month by month?
The Thailand festival calendar from November 2026 to April 2027 runs from Loy Krathong on 24 November 2026 to the Full Moon Party on 21 April 2027, with Yi Peng, the December music festivals and Songkran in between. Dates marked "expected" haven't been announced for the next edition yet.
Two things run all season. Vijit Chao Phraya lights up the river from 13 November to 13 December 2026, and the Bangkok Art Biennale fills ten venues, from Wat Arun to One Bangkok, until 28 February 2027.
Ask Tanner to fit two or three of these into one trip.

Which December music festivals are best?
December belongs to music festivals, and four of them are worth flying for. Each one has its own feel.
- Wonderfruit, 3 to 7 December 2026: five days of music, art and big ideas in the fields. Buy passes on Wonderfruit's own ticket page.
- Tomorrowland Thailand, 11 to 13 December 2026: the Thailand edition of the Belgian EDM festival, and it's sold out.
- Big Mountain, 12 to 13 December 2026: the big Thai music weekend at Farm Chokchai 3 in Pak Chong, Khao Yai, with doors at noon.
- EDC Thailand, 18 to 20 December 2026: neon, lasers and bass in Phuket. 3-day Early Owl entry is ฿10,490.
Tanner's pick: do Wonderfruit and Tomorrowland from one Pattaya villa. They're four days apart, and one villa and one van cover both. Ask Tanner to line them up.
Which festivals are public holidays?
Songkran and New Year are the two that come with days off. Songkran gives you three full days to soak the city: 13, 14 and 15 April 2027 are all public holidays, and Chakri Day, Tuesday 6 April, is a holiday a week before. The New Year break runs four days, Thursday 31 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, with the countdowns in between.
Loy Krathong is not a public holiday. Shops and offices stay open, and the floating starts after dark. Ask Tanner where to float yours.
Where should you stay for each festival?
Stay close to the action, and the day starts and ends on your terms. Here's where to base yourself.
- Songkran: Bangkok, around Silom, for the big street water fights. Chiang Mai, near Wat Chedi Luang, home of the Chiang Mai Water Festival at Songkran.
- Wonderfruit and Tomorrowland: Pattaya. A Bangkok–Pattaya party van is ฿3,500 each way.
- EDC Thailand: Phuket. Patong is about 40 km from the airport, about an hour by car.
- Loy Krathong and Yi Peng: Chiang Mai for the lanterns, or Bangkok for the river.
A pool villa gives the group its own place to start and finish the night. Villas are from ฿18,500 a day, and Pattaya villas from ฿12,500 a day. Ask Tanner which villa sits closest to your festival.
What's Thailand's festival year in short?
- Loy Krathong: Tuesday 24 November 2026, with Yi Peng in Chiang Mai on 23 to 25 November.
- Pattaya International Fireworks Festival: 27 and 28 November 2026.
- December music: Wonderfruit 3–7, Tomorrowland 11–13, Big Mountain 12–13, EDC Thailand 18–20.
- New Year break: Thursday 31 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027.
- Songkran: 13 to 15 April 2027, all three days public holidays.
- Checked November 2026.
Ask Tanner to hold your dates before the villas fill.

How does Tanner build your trip?
A festival trip is the festival plus everything around it. Most festivals run two or three days, and many groups stay on afterwards, so plan the whole stay, not just the tickets.
- Land fast. Airport fast track at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang, ฿2,400 a person: a greeter meets you at the gate and walks you through the fast immigration lane.
- Get a base. A pool villa near the festival, with your own bartender or a DJ if you want the party to keep going.
- Move together. A luxury van with a driver is from ฿6,500 for 10 hours, and the cars are matched to your plan.
- Add the extra days. An island after Songkran, Phuket after EDC, or a boat day on the Andaman (the price depends on the boat; Tanner quotes to your plan).
